Information on Wakefield Glass by Westmoreland Glass Company |
Wakefield Glass was made by Westmoreland Glass Company in Grapeville, Pennsylvania. Wakefield was the birth place of George Washington, and it was started the 200th year after his birth. Wakefield was introduced again as a crystal glassware in 1950. Then in 1970’s and 1980’s they made it with the ruby stain. It is much more popular with this ruby color. You have to be careful because this stain will come off in the dishwasher. So please take care of this fine crystal and hand wash it. Some of the Wakefield pieces are very hard to find. Usually the price with the ruby stain is double what the crystal glass would be. There are about 50 different items to be found. Westmoreland Wakefield is very pretty at Christmas time.
